Wigan 2013

This scheme ran successfully for 10 days from Monday 22 July to Friday 2 August. A total of 18 children attended for 93 days. To look after them we took on 20 staff who worked for a total of 130 days.

We aimed to provide a variety of offsite and indoor activities as below.

Offsite activities 

A variety of these activities were available each day for the children to access if they would like. We also tried to accommodate other activities that they would like to do also.

Space/safe play    –       Both are large indoor sensory areas, with large pieces of play equipment and sensory equipment, e.g. bubble tubes, water beds, ball pools, slides, swings.

Gulliver’s World  –  Using the play equipment, accessing the rides, having a picnic dinner, ice cream.

Local Parks  –  Walking and playing with other children using bouncy castles and small rides, picnic dinners, ice cream, using the play equipment,

McDonalds –

Beach – Sand castle building, games, relaxation, walks, paddling.

Indoor/onsite activities

A variety of these activities were available each day for the children to access if they would like. We also tried to accommodate other activities that they would like to do also.

Arts & Crafts – Painting, colouring books, collage, trinket boxes, jewellery making, printing, making play dough.

Cooking  –  Biscuits, cakes, pizza, sandwiches.

Sensory Play – Pasta, bubbles, massage, corn flour, play dough, koosh balls, sand, musical instruments, adult child interaction, paddling pool, face paints.

Games – Construction, board games, skittles, races, football, tennis, parachute games.

Physical   play  –  Climbing frame, tunnels, skateboards for spinning, hoopla hoops, exercise balls, basket balls for bouncing.

Each year we ask our staff and parents for feed back. Listed below are some of the comments we received.

I liked the variety of activities that were based on individual preferences.(Staff)

It gave me opportunity to spend quality time with my daughter and on things we can’t do when we have him.(Parent)
My daughter only sleeps 2 – 3 hours a night. It is very demanding so the break was very much appreciated and needed. (Parent)

My son loves it. I have spoken to him about it and he definitely wants to come next year. (Parent)
