Manchester 2010

How could we improve?

  • Visual timetables
  • Different activities e.g. Horse riding
  • Schemes in other holidays
  • Earlier notification re place and days
  • I don't think you need to improve anything. Happy with the scheme
  • Would be more convenient if the days were a bit longer (minor gripe only - the staff are probably tired enough by 3pm)
  • By making it available other school holidays

What difference did your child's attendance on the scheme make to their siblings and / or wider family?

  • His sisters had a break from the struggle of looking after him
  • I could go to work without the guilt of leaving him
  • We could go to places and do things he can't do
  • We had quality time and able to attend activities that we wouldn't be able to without him
  • For the last 3 years it has been the highlight of his summer and makes home life much easier. I have also noticed a positive impact on his sister and the quality time we have shared as a family and individually.
  • He enjoyed good times with people who understand ASD thus meaning he was calmer at home and pleased with what he managed
  • It gave us a chance to have a quality time with our other children. He is happy to go to this scheme as he sees familiar faces from his school
  • Really helpful as I was able to spend time with and do activities with his siblings
  • It gives me time alone with his sister to do 'girly' stuff like shopping
  • I was able to spend time with his brother who also has special needs

General Comments

  • Fantastic scheme. He feels very welcome and valued and enjoys the activities provided. Exercise is vital for his gross motor skills and he enjoys the laid back approach. An excellent co-ordinator. Keep up the good work. Driver also excellent.
  • He is asking to go again. It is unusual for him to be so positive and I think this relates to him being accepted and understood. He also enjoyed the activities, especially being outside. Staff seemed very competent.
  • Everyone is so kind and helpful. He is very eager to go every day, which gives him some independence from us. A great scheme!
  • Wonderful staff and convenient, safe location. I made the mistake of sending him on another scheme two years ago (it was cheaper and transport home was included). What a mistake!. He hated the staff, didn't get on with the other kids and was just travelling in a minibus all day. He still moans about it and it made me realise just how good LfA is. Many thanks.
  • The scheme is good value and helps my child cope with the holidays.
